Warren

Product Designer

At Warren, I experienced startup growth first-hand.

Research to Hand-off

My responsibilities were to conduct user research frequently, design user interface for Web, Android and iOS, collaborate to maintain the design system, lead the design process in different squads all the way through final handoff.

I also conducted user testing and worked closely with the data team to evaluate the product's evolution.
This is the launch video for a new updated version of the product.

Mission & Purpose

Brazil has a notorious lack of financial education leading to many societal problems such as acquiring debt, spending more than earning, and an overall negative sentiment towards money.

At Warren we needed to create the most friendly experience possible to make people feel secure about their investments. At first the target was people who didn't have experience investing at all. Then, as the product progressed, we expand the demographics to also experienced investors.

The purpose of the company is to enhance people's financial realities by teaching them to invest. Brazil's finance education is non-existential.

The motto was: Instead of leaving money on the bank, invest safely in better products based on your profile.

The startup has won awards for most innovative investment platform in Brazil. The visual design of your page should be very simple. Unlike your front page, this is not the place to go crazy with brand personality—so no wild animations or complex design elements. You wouldn’t want to distract visitors from performing the main action of your page.

Team Collaboration

Each product designer had the responsibility to make sure all components used were aligned with the core components. Every week we had working sessions to collaborate on evolving, documenting and testing new tokens that were needed to design new interfaces.

Below is an example of such session, myself and two other designers worked on the Card component for all web and app clients.

The team had to work across all squads to mantain and evolve the design system.

Takeaways

Product development is such a fascinating challenge to do it well. There are so many variables that only an orchestrated team can perform deliver often. The biggest lessons were about leadership, research, data, discovery and the importance of communication. My process has evolved tremendously since I started working at Warren.
